The EM SCOM Administrator provides support to the Defense Health Agency (DHA) at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. This position uses MS SCOM, monitors system uptime availability and maintains the framework for new and existing applications, servers, and services that require monitoring at the enterprise level.


Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Using MS SCOM, monitors system uptime availability and maintains the framework for new and existing applications, servers, and services that require monitoring at the enterprise level.

Analyzes DHA current enterprise system monitoring implementation and provides a status report before and after remediation actions engineered and executed.

Customizes enterprise monitoring rules, alerting, and reporting functions for applicable DHA applications and servers, and produces reports depicting the performance indicators for these applications and servers, such as “uptime” and “downtime.”

Maintains disaster recovery capability and procedures and ensures all enterprise monitoring servers are compliant to the latest appropriate DISA STIGs.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.


Bachelors degree and a minimum of four (4) years’ relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience. Experience working in or with Defense Health Agency or other military medical environment. Experience leading or supporting one or more SCCM or SCOM implementation projects. 

4 years of SCCM/SCOM experience.


Knowledge of end-to-end application architecture with awareness of hardware, operating systems software, application programs, or network

Advanced knowledge of programming patterns

Highly organized with ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

Excellent customer service skills with ability to be self-motivated

Extremely detail-oriented with ability to quickly grasp business needs and issues

Exhibits leadership qualities such as facilitating conference calls, managing expectations and coordinating deliverables

Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

Ability to adhere to regularly-scheduled business hours


IAT-III - one of the following: CASP+ CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP (or Associate), GCED, or GCIH


ADP II Position of Trust prior to commencing work

Must be a US Citizen


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professiona1journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.


Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
